Charles Calhoun, MD
Dr. Calhoun has been a board certified ophthalmologist since 1977.

He was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1943. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Rhodes College undergraduate school and graduated from the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine in Memphis. Dr. Calhoun did a rotating internship at the City of Memphis hospitals and served in the U.S. Navy for 2 1⁄2 years as a naval flight surgeon obtaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He also did emergency room work and general medical work during some of this time. He returned to Memphis for a 3 year Ophthalmology residency at the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine. He served as chief resident during his third year. He began practice in Columbus, Georgia with Dr. Floyd Jarrell and Dr. John Newton with what is now West Georgia Eye Care Center.

His practice interests include comprehensive ophthalmology with special interest in cataract and refractive surgery. He also enjoys pediatric ophthalmology and sees many children with crossed eyes.

Dr. Calhoun maintains active involvement in the community as well. He has been Chairman of the Young Life committee and still serves on their Emeritus Board. He has been Chief of Staff at Doctor's Hospital and served as legislative Chairman of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. He is presently on the Board for Lighthouse for Christ, which maintains a mission in Mombasa, Kenya. Eye Care for the Needy, which supports Dr. Steve Beaty and his missionary endeavors in Zimbabwe, Africa, and on the Council of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. He also is chairman of the Ethics Committee at Doctor's Hospital.

Dr. Calhoun and his wife, Ginger, attend Wynnbrook Baptist Church. His 3 daughters are Carroll age 32, Ginny age 29, and Charity age 19. Dr. Calhoun enjoys travel and reading military history.
