Dr. Stephen Beaty

 

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Stephen Beaty grew up in Zimbabwe, Africa while his parents were missionaries. He returned to the United States in 1974 to attend University and graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1974 with honors.

 

Dr. Beaty did his medical training and ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee. He was chief resident from 1982-1983. After practicing for a year in Lancaster, South Carolina, Dr. Beaty moved to Columbus, Georgia to join Dr. Floyd Jarrell and Dr. Charles Calhoun. This group formed what is now West Georgia Eye Care Center.

 

Dr. Beaty has held a number of both academic and medical staff positions both in Columbus and in the State of Georgia. He has been a clinical instructor at both The Medical College of Georgia and at Emory University and has taught numerous clinical courses. He has been chief of the Medical Staff and has sat on the executive boards of both local hospitals and also the state ophthalmological society in Georgia. Dr. Beaty has participated in many mission and humanitarian ventures and projects around the world including a 7 month term then a 4 year term of medical mission service in Southern Africa. He has also lectured in several foreign medical settings as a part of the volunteer outreach that he has undertaken.

 

Dr. Beaty is married with three teenage children. He enjoys numerous outdoor sporting activities as well as travel and the fine arts. Dr. Beaty performs surgical and medical management of broad variety of eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, plastic surgery, retinal conditions and laser refractive surgery.
