Dr. Cynthia Nix

 

Dr. Cynthia P. Nix, a native of Florida, joined West Georgia Eye Care Center in 2010.  She is a cornea and refractive surgeon focusing on cataract/lens surgery, corneal transplantation, and laser refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK).  In addition, Dr. Nix specializes in managing diseases of the eye surface such as dry eye, infections, tumors, and contact lens complications, as well as providing general ophthalmologic care.

 

Dr. Nix received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, graduating magna cum laude from the Honors College with dual degrees in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Medieval and Renaissance Studies.  She continued her education at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she received her Doctor of Medicine degree with Distinction in Research due to her contributions in the field of immunology while a fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute—National Institutes of Health Program in Bethesda, MD.

 

After a medicine internship, Dr. Nix completed three years of ophthalmology residency training and a one-year cornea fellowship at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL.  As a senior resident, Dr. Nix won first place in the American College of Eye Surgeons National Cataract Surgery Competition.  She has performed extensive research resulting in multiple paper and book chapter publications and presentations at numerous national conferences.  Dr. Nix has worked alongside some of the most highly regarded cornea specialists and has taken numerous courses on the most cutting-edge ophthalmic surgery techniques and procedures.

 

Dr. Nix is married to Dr. Jamie L. Nix, a native of Opelika, AL.  He is currently Director of Wind Ensemble Activities and Associate Professor of Music at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music.  So far, they have one young daughter, Katelyn.  Dr. Nix enjoys hiking, camping, scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with her family.
