Pediatric Eye Care

Although your pediatrician examines babies at birth, if there are any abnormalities, they may refer your child to be examined to determine whether both eyes are used together as a team.  Our doctors will also check for conditions such as congenital cataracts, nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Although a baby can’t provide any input at this age, the doctor can conduct tests that will provide input about the child’s vision.

Eye exams for young children or infants should be scheduled for times when they are rested — typically in the morning.  Parents should bring along a favorite toy or juice in case there is waiting time or the child needs a familiar object.

Paperwork should be prepared and sent to the doctor’s office ahead of time or brought along to the appointment to avoid excessive waiting time.  Please visit our home page for the required forms.
