Retina and Vitreous Disorders

If one thinks of the eye as a camera, then the film represents the retina.  The retina is a thin layer of tissue at the very back of the eye.   The retina takes light and transforms it into nerve signals that are transmitted to the brain that interprets what the image is.  The retina is the site of many vision problems such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal artery and vein occlusion, posterior uveitis, retinal tear or detachment, and macular edema.

The physicians at West Georgia Eye Care Center have the latest technology such as the OCT (optical coherence tomography) and fluorescein angiography to evaluate and treat your retinal problems.  If treatment is needed, we also have a complete laser treatment center right in our office.  A retina specialist is available if additional surgery is needed.  The problem with retinal disorders is that you cannot “feel” them and you may not even notice the difference in your vision until the condition has progressed.  If you have concerns that you may be experiencing retinal problems contact one our ophthalmologists for an evaluation.
