Happy Memorial Day

As Memorial Day draws near, West Georgia Eye Care Center reflects on the great privilege we have to care for our many military veteran patients and their families! We deeply appreciate their sacrifices to protect our freedoms.  Memorial Day is set aside to honor those who have given their lives in service to our great country and we are grateful for the many benefits we enjoy that have been protected by their sacrifice.

Social Security Administration

One of the country’s benefits that taxpayers contribute to is Social Security. The Social Security Administration (SSA) asks that those who serve military families please share benefit information, and we are happy to do so.  US citizens age 65 and older are eligible to be recipients of Social Security, but not all who are eligible are necessarily older.  The widows, widowers and dependent children of deceased veterans may be eligible for Social Security survivor’s benefits regardless of age. You can learn more at: www.socialsecurity.gov/survivors.

Wounded veterans unable to continue military service may also be eligible for benefits. Valuable information for wounded veterans can be found on the Social Security site: www.socialsecurity.gov/woundedwarriors.

Eligible service members can also receive Social Security in addition to military retirement benefits. The good news is that your military retirement benefit generally does not reduce your Social Security retirement benefit.  Learn more at: www.socialsecurity.gov/retirement.

Honor and Thanks

In the spirit of Memorial Day, please share this information with a military family who may not be aware of these benefits. In tribute to those heroes who died for our country, to those who served, and to those who are serving, we at West Georgia Eye Care Center honor and thank you.
