Learning through Adversity (like COVID!)

2020 has been a year for learning. People across the globe have learned that something as small as a virus, hidden from our view, can still teach us that we have a lot in common. We see that our common needs as humans are far greater than our differences.

Remember –

The human eye can teach a similar lesson. All people need the same healthy eye structures for good vision, and all face risks for eye disease(s). During difficult times, it is good to remember that we are all in this thing we call life, together.

Learning –

At West Georgia Eye Care Center, learning is an ongoing process, from everyday patient education to professional continuing medical education. A recent lesson learned has been how to manage patient care during a pandemic; continuing serving patients with the best eye care possible, while taking conscientious precautions for everyone’s protection. The learning curve has resulted in a new way to offer one of our popular services – Free LASIK Teleconsultations. The “Tele-” is new, and simply refers to the convenience of receiving a LASIK screening by telephone.

Teleconsultations –

In the beginning, this was a modification made during the time that WGECC was closed and only able to offer urgent and emergent services; however, after listening to our patients’ feedback, Free LASIK Teleconsultations remain available for your convenience. The average call takes about 15 – 20 minutes, but patients are not rushed and may take as long as needed to have questions answered. The two main objectives of these calls are:

  1. to determine if laser vision correction can meet the patient’s goals; and,
  2. to determine if the patient meets screening criteria for minimal risk.

Preops –

Once a patient has passed the screening process, the next step is a LASIK Preoperative Evaluation with the LASIK surgeon. This comprehensive evaluation determines candidacy for the procedure, and allows for development of the surgical plan. Procedures can usually be offered within a day or two of the Preop Evaluation.

If you are interested in learning more about freedom from glasses and/or contact lenses through laser vision correction, call for a Free LASIK Teleconsultation! Information is only a phone call away…
