P. Barrett Paulk, M.D.
Dr. Barrett Paulk is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Auburn University, where he graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences. He continued his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. After completing an internship year at Brookwood Baptist Health in Birmingham, AL, Dr. Paulk completed his ophthalmology residency training at Callahan Eye Hospital in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. In his residency, he had the opportunity to work in one of the only two Level 1 Ocular Trauma Centers in the United States with a 24/7 Eye Emergency Department. Dr. Paulk joined West Georgia Eye Care Center in September 2021.
While in medical school, Dr. Paulk was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Paulk authored and co-authored several publications for medical and surgical journals during his training. He is a member of several medical professional societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, and is joining the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
During his medical school and residency training, Dr. Paulk has participated in many services and activities that give back to communities, both locally and abroad. These include the Christian Medical Ministry of Alabama, Serving You Financial Ministry Volunteer, Project Uplift Mentor, and mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Honduras.
Dr. Paulk’s surgical and medical interests include cataract surgery, laser eye surgery, glaucoma medical management and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, functional eyelid surgery, and Botox injections. He is excited to offer comprehensive surgical, medical, and laser treatments for patients of West Georgia Eye Care Center. He is licensed to practice medicine and perform surgery in Georgia and Alabama.
Dr. Paulk lives in Columbus with his wife, Claire, and son, Wyatt. In his spare time, Dr. Paulk enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, traveling, cycling, and hiking. He can also be found attending Auburn University sporting events as a proud alumnus.
