Springtime – green grass, flowers, allergies, and …..LASIK!?

In our last blog we shared some ways to defend yourself from that aggravating harbinger of Spring – pollen!  We mentioned that contact lens wearers are at particular risk for eye symptoms associated with outdoor allergens.  The great news is that Spring is a perfect time to say goodbye to the inconvenience and discomfort of contact lenses with LASIK!

Patients who are good candidates for LASIK can be free of the inconveniences of glasses and contact lenses in time for Summer sports and water activities!  You may be surprised how quickly LASIK allows you to return to your favorite forms of Summer fun!

Exercise/Activity Guidelines following LASIK –

Safe activity guidelines after laser vision correction in general are designed to protect your eyes from impact/trauma and infection.  Some specifics include:

  • Restricted Water Activities (swimming, hot-tubs, waterparks, fishing, boating, skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and rafting) for 2 weeks. Exposing your eye to immersion, splash or spray is a risk factor for infection and inflammation.  Showers are okay. (and recommended…😊!)
  • Restricted Contact Sports (such as martial arts, boxing and wrestling) for up to 1 month. Sports that require masks (scuba diving, parachuting) are also restricted for 2 – 4 weeks.
  • Restricted Travel (airline and/or long distance) for 2 weeks(preferred). Your surgeon prefers that you be close to help if you should need it, and dry airline air can aggravate healing eyes.

We have dedicated LASIK staff ready to help guide you through our patient-friendly laser vision correction program.  Call to find out more – 706 507 7528!
