When the Worst is Around Us, We Can Share the BEST From Within Us

One day the worst of the novel Coronavirus pandemic (COVID 19) will be behind us, and we’ll then have opportunity to discuss and analyze our responses and how it hopefully strengthened us as a community. Regardless of present circumstances; however, West Georgia Eye Care Center’s core mission remains the same: to serve our patients (this community) to the best of our ability. To that end, we will be following the recommendations of the CDC and other agencies and temporarily cancelling routine care, limiting service to urgent and emergent patient care only. For patients with eye urgencies/emergencies, we will remain available, serving the people of Columbus and the surrounding areas just as we have been for the past 70 years.

Not emergent –

We know that the reduction in services will cause inconvenience, and we will be rescheduling routine appointments and elective procedures as soon as possible. For example, cataract surgery is the most frequently performed surgery at The Eye Surgery Center of West Georgia, especially as patients are empowered to decide when the symptoms of their cataracts are disrupting the quality of their lives enough for them to choose to move forward with surgery. Along with the benefits of being able to choose the “best” time for cataract surgery is the inherent reality that cataract surgery is not urgent or emergent.

Truly sorry –

Therefore, many of you will be receiving phone calls to cancel your scheduled cataract surgery, LASIK, examinations, or other procedures. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience which this will cause, and will do our best to communicate and reschedule with you as soon as we are able. In the meantime, we remain available for needed care that requires the expertise of our doctors, offering that care with a heart to serve our community. We are inspired as many of you (and us!) are contributing to area food banks, offering help with child care, reaching out to seniors, and serving our communities in ways that show the BEST from within us.

Support one another –

Our prayer is that you and your loved ones will stay well, support one another, and allow God to use this time of difficulty to bless you in unexpected ways.
